DEATH, A PERSONAL UNDERSTANDING (STUDY GUIDE) by Robert Kastenbaum
This PBS video course is designed to provide learners with an introduction to the who, what, where, when, why, and how of death in society. The primary goals of the course are to help you deepen your personal understanding of the many dimensions of this topic, to enable you to become a more empathetic and effective caregiver and provider of support, and to provide you with tools to critique the "death care" system.
The course is divided into ten lessons, each accompanied by readings in a text and a video. Each video lesson is 30 minutes long. Themes are presented by a wide range of experts drawn from fields as diverse as gerontology, psychology, religion, anthropology, nursing, social work, and history, and through actual case studies. The videos may be viewed alone for an introductory overview of the many facets of the topic of death.
